Programs

Girls, Inc. is the voice for girls. Our programs are research-based, field-tested and evaluated. We reach out to girls to provide a wide-range of programs reflecting their needs and interests. We want girls to be able to make good choices for their lives and futures. Our programs address the whole girl, empowering her with information, new experiences and skills.

Economic Literacy

Girls learn about money and the economy, including how to manage, invest and save money and how to help others through philanthropy. As girls explore how the economy affects everyone locally and globally, they develop skills critical to being financially savvy and to becoming economically independent adults. (She's on the Money; She's the Boss; Dollars, Sense, and Me)

Friendly PEERsuasion

Girls develop the skills to resist pressure to use harmful substances such as drugs, alcohol, tabacco, and household chemicals. Friendly PEERsuasion targets the years during which girls begin to more fully experience and respond to influence and pressure from their peers to participate in risky behaviors.

Healthy Sexuality

Girls deserve education that empowers them to be healthy and reach toward future goals including completion of their education—and encourages thoughtful consideration about the impact of pregnancy on their future aspirations. The program is designed to help girls and their parents communicate about issues surrounding healthy sexuality. (Growing Up!, Informed Together)

Media Literacy

Girls increase their awareness of the scope and power of the media and the effects of media messages on girls and women. They learn to analyze what they see and hear in the media and advocate for change in entertainment, news, and advertising. (Media and Me, Media Smarts)

Mind+Body

Girls deserve a supportive enviroment for developming and maintaing a healthy lifestyle, and they deserve to be involved in decisions about their health. A positive youth development approach can be key to equipping girls with knowledge, skills, attitudes, and support for maintaing a positive sense of self and for being healthy today and throughout their lives.

Operation SMART

Science, Math, and Relevant Technology provides girls with experiences and introduces them to careers in these areas. Girls, Inc. recognizes that girls are often steered away from technology. The end result is that, too often, girls grow up to find themselves blocked from one of the fastest growing and most important economic sectors of the future. Girls, Inc. is dedicated to providing these opportunities for girls. (Coding, Storytime STEAM)

Redefining Beauty

Girls build self-esteem and self-confidence by confronting body image stereotypes. A girl who has completed the program knows she is beautiful inside and out, breaks down body image stereotypes, makes healthy decisions, knows her body is a resource not an object, and distinguishes between unrealistic and realistic images of women in media.

Sporting Chance

Girls build a foundation for enjoying sports, adventure and physical activity throughout their lives. Girls develop movement and athletic skills, cooperative and competitive spirit, and healthy habits. They experience the benefits and excitement of taking positive risks that bolster their self-confidence and personal growth. (Steppingstones, Bridges, Girls enCourage, BoneZone)

Work It Out

Girls are empowered to navigate the conflict in their lives by developing empathy for others and understanding the consequences of hurtful behavior. A girl who has completed the program respects her friends and peers, stands up for herself and others, resolves conflict constructively, communicates her feelings without bringing others down, trusts and supports her friends, and doesn't resort to bullying.
